After leaving school and deciding that I didn’t want to follow the traditional route like my friends, I trained and worked as a service engineer with British Gas (yes you heard me, British Gas, that is how long ago it was!) gaining my City & Guilds/NVQ 3 in the process. Despite occasionally wondering if I had made the best decision while my friends at university partied hard and lay about watching daytime TV, I soon realised that I had made the right choice when three years had passed. I was fully qualified, earning good money and had a job with a well established company while many of my graduate friends were jobless, debt laden and struggling to find their feet in the world outside of university. This sad reality is still something that many people face so I joined notgoingtouni to help show the alternative options on offer. With graduate unemployment currently at an all time high it would be rude not to really!
