management-apprenticeships

So you want to be the boss? In charge of running day to day duties in a store or a department and having a say in who gets hired and fired. Then a management apprenticeship may just be the start you need to become the next David Brent…Well hopefully not!

What’s it about?

Good management is essential if a business is to succeed and this apprenticeship will teach you the skills needed, making sure you can implement them easily in your future career .There is a real need to encourage young people to progress through the management qualifications to address the future skills needs of organisations within the UK.

There are a broad range of industries management can work in so your skills you will develop will be tailored to whichever industry you happen to be functioning in. You may have to start your apprenticeship in Team Leading and this is a great foundation to build essential skills that all great managers pick up when they begin.

Then you will progress to the advanced apprenticeship in management where you will learn more of the theory side and how to calculate and explain those all important company figures.

Who’s it for?

There are many different management styles and there is no wrong choice in which, but many will argue as to which method is the most effective to get the most out of your style. You will learn this as part of your apprenticeship but there is no doubt , to be a manager you need to have good business sense and a grasp of business terminology.

Remaining calm and working quickly under pressure is also an important trait as it to be brave and confident- as you may in the future have to make some big and scary calls which won’t always please everyone.

Having broad shoulders could also come in handy as it’s better to be a successful manager, rather than a popular one. (Take note Mr. Brent)

What do I get out of it?

You’ll learn a great number of skills including, the theories of team leading and how business works. You’ll manage your own workload; lead others; work effectively with other people; and learn how to get your point across through talking and discussion with others. Later, you’ll be able to understand the theories of management, and how to source, understand, present and explain work related figures and calculations.

Throughout you apprenticeship you gain the relevant qualifications depending on which level of framework is followed but in England and Wales generally you will pass a management NVQ, some sort of Knowledge based certificate, Key Skills and Employment rights and responsibilities. In Scotland the apprenticeship contains these 3 basis ingredients; S/NVQ, Core Skills and Industry specific training.

A management apprenticeship is an excellent way of gaining managerial experience which is very hard to come about otherwise. Latest figures show there are over 4 million people employed in management in the UK which goes to show, there is plenty of opportunities to get stuck into management roles in a variety of industries.

And whichever industry you end up in, will determine you salary!
