Apprenticeships
Apprentiships
Whoops, you found us by searching apprentiships. It's a funny word because people say it the way you've just spelt it, as in apprent-i-ships but it's actually spelt apprenticeships…confusing, I know! Well, we're going to tell you a little about apprenticeships anyway.
What are apprenticeships (apprentiships)?
Apprenticeships are a vocational route where you can earn 'n' learn at the same time. Apprentices work on-the-job developing skills in a certain industry whilst working towards a qualification like a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or BTEC. There are many different apprenticeships in different sectors.
How much do I earn on an apprenticeship (apprentiships)?
A new National Minimum Wage for apprentices was introduced from 1 October 2010. The wage will apply to all apprentices aged under 19; and apprentices aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship.
The Apprentice minimum wage will be £2.50 per hour and applies to time working, plus time spent training that is part of the Apprenticeship.Employers will be free to pay above the new wage. Many already do so and this change will not affect that but employers must ensure that they are paying their apprentices at least the minimum wage.
The current requirement is £95 a week and, if an apprentice is on this level, the employer must continue to pay at least £95 per week for the remainder of the training or until the apprentice becomes eligible for the full national minimum wage.
How can I find out more about apprenticeships (apprentiships)?
notgoingtouni.co.uk offer a range of different apprenticeships in different sectors on our jobs and training board, we've also put together a more in-depth article about apprenticeships. If that's not enough then you can have a browse through our list of apprenticeship employers!
