A Degree without debt

A degree without debt

Stop press. There's no need to go out and buy a 'how-to-survive-uni-without-the-debt' book or work every waking hour of the day to fund university, we've found ways you can get a degree completely free and come out the other end without the need to get into debt (unless you're a big spender!). This section is a work in progress and will be updated regularly as we find new ways you can study debt-free.

The Open University
Studying for a degree at most universities is likely to leave you with a debt of at least £23,000. Pretty scary stuff when you consider how long it will take to pay back. The good news is that most of The Open University's degrees will set you back just £4,000*, and better still, if you're living with your parents and earning less than £16,510** a year you won't have to pay a penny towards the cost of your study.

At The Open University, you study part time when and where it suits you so you can have a full time job and not rack up huge debt. Fees are paid module by module and there is financial support available depending on your circumstances.

* for academic year 2010/2011. ** for study undertand before August 2012

Cadetships
In the Merchant Navy there are two types of cadetship; Deck Officer Cadetships and Engineer Officer Cadetships. Cadetships in the Merchant Navy generally last several years with cadets taking block-leave where they learn at college or University before going to sea for an assignment. Cadets in the Merchant Navy usually train towards an HND/HNC, Foundation Degree or Undergraduate Degree.

RDI
Resource Development International (RDI) is the world's largest independent provider of distance learning education, offering students a choice of over 40 qualifications in 13 different subjects from nine different universities. By studying through RDI & via distance learning over a campus-based university, you could save up to £42,791.

PwC
Combine work with study at the Henley Business School at University of Reading on this new partnership degree programme whilst you fast track your career.  As you progress through this four year BA (Hons) Accounting & Business (UCAS code NN41) degree programme you will be working toward the ICAEW’s Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification. You will also get to put theory into practice, by assisting PwC’s assurance team on client projects over three paid, progressive work placements – easing the cost of going to university and developing vital employability skills you will need for your career going forward.  Successful graduates from the programme can expect to receive a full time job offer from PwC and because you have already completed three placements you can expect to be a step ahead of your peers by the time you join us.

We've published a distance learning guide that can be found in our career resources section with information on cost-effective and flexible alternatives.
