Cadetship
6th August 2010, 15:38A Cadet is a junior trainee and Cadetship literally means traineeship, so you join an organisation and train with them. Cadetships are usually found in the public sector (for example in the Army, Navy, RAF, Police and health service), alternatively the Merchant Navy take on large numbers of cadets each year.
Merchant Navy Cadetship
In the Merchant Navy there are two types of cadetship; Deck Officer Cadetships and Engineer Officer Cadetships. Cadetships in the Merchant Navy generally last several years with cadets taking block-leave where they learn at college or University before going to sea for an assignment. Cadets in the Merchant Navy usually train towards an HND/HNC, Foundation Degree or Undergraduate Degree.
