Is this course for me?

This course enables you to develop the skills and knowledge needed when working in Health and Social Care settings. Your skills in communication, problem solving, team working and time management should develop as a result of taking this course. You will also undertake at least 100 hours of work experience.

What is the course content?

You will study a range of units. The core units are: Developing Effective Communication in Health & Social Care, Equality & Diversity, Health, Safety & Security, Development through the Life Stages, Anatomy & Physiology, Personal & Professional Development, Values & Planning in Social Care, Caring for Children & Young People and Supporting & Protecting Adults. The specialist units include: Sociological & Psychological Perspectives, Public Health and Physiological Disorders.

How is the course run?

Full-time for two years from September to June each year, including 100 hours’ work experience.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout the year by a range of methods including assignments, presentations, group work and projects.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of five GCSEs (C or above) including English. A First Diploma with a merit grade in four units, or equivalent qualification plus a successful interview and clear CRB.

Where will this course lead me?

Progression into Higher Education or employment in the care sector.

Anything else I need to know?

You will receive support from a competent, approachable team of staff, who have experience in the Health or Social Care sector. You should develop the skills that are vital for working in this sector.
