Course Programme:
Apprenticeship Hairdressing
Age:
18
Stylish Katrina Baranyi is careering along very nicely since landing herself a fantastic apprenticeship opportunity. The 18 year old from Pimlico made a decision to try the apprenticeship route because of the good employment prospects and qualification opportunities it offers her. Katrina initially came to the College to study Art and Design but decided to switch subjects and follow a more work-related, vocational route while earning a monthly wage. She is now studying an NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing at Lambeth College on a day-release basis, and spends the rest of the week working at the Fordham Hair Salon in Soho, central London.
Katrina says: “Cutting and styling hair allows me to use my creativity and artistic talents. I think that I will get a lot of job satisfaction from this type of work and that is very important to me. At work I learn things I don’t get to do at College and vice versa. My teachers at Lambeth College can teach me the theory and science I don’t get from my employers as well introducing me to the techniques of cutting, colouring, perming and styling. At work I get the on-the-job experience and work with real customers as well as getting to watch and learn from experienced professionals.
I hope to make a good career out of hairdressing and would also like to get into session styling when I am fully qualified and have more experience. I think working on location, styling the hair of models for photo shoots would be a great job to have.
