Loughborough College

is at the forefront of Apprenticeships, Further and Higher Education and also boasts a superb location at the heart of UK sport on a single campus. We cater for youngsters and mature students alike with our wide range of flexible courses across a number of different subject areas.

More than 12,000 learners choose to study at the College both on traditional on-campus courses and via distance learning programmes to help further their careers. We offer a number of full and part time courses from Entry Level to Honours Degrees as well as Apprenticeships in a wide range of different disciplines.

Learners are encouraged by the excellent academic and pastoral support at the College. We pride ourselves on handing back much of the responsibility to our students to guide their own educational journeys – they really are in the driving seat. We believe that both Further and Higher Education have the potential to challenge and enhance you and give you the chance to shape your future. We boast a safe and healthy environment where students can enjoy their education, free from harassment, bullying and discrimination regardless of your age, background, race or disability.

Our students continue to excel both in and out of the classroom with a number nominated for and clinching external awards relating to their sector. We also have a cohort of more than 200 elite athletes studying here while striving for sporting success. Current students include Commonwealth bronze medallist and wrestler Leon Rattigan, swimmer Lizzie Simmonds and hockey starlet Nicola White. Former students include world 50m backstroke champion Liam Tancock.

Our Elite Sports team recognises the importance of allowing students to achieve their best in their chosen sporting field while allowing them to remain in education – no matter how long it takes. Where possible; exams and assessments can be moved so they fit around training schedules/competitions/matches so the students may continue to thrive in their chosen sport. We also offer a wide range of sporting courses for those interested in forging a career in the world of sport, regardless of their own ability.

We are committed to improving our provision for students and staff and have begun work on improving our campus. In Autumn 2011, work began on a £1m Elite Athlete Performance Centre for talented sportsmen and women aged 16-18. The centre is the first of its kind in the UK and will provide top quality pastoral care along with excellent sporting facilities to its inhabitants. The Volleyball England Academy are set to be the first cohort to move in during 2012. The College has also made moves to improve its green credentials by installing two sets of innovative new cycle lockers for staff and students wishing to commute on their bikes. The scheme was undertaken in partnership with Leicestershire County Council’s Environment and Transport Department and Post-16 Transport Partnership as well as Leicester City Council’s Post-16 Transport Partnership. We have also made improvements to our car parks on-site for those coming to College in their cars.

In addition to our excellent academic provision, we also boast an impressive Centre for Leadership and Management to provide training to businesses as well as our very successful Apprenticeships programme. Our Employer Engagement team is a training provider set up specifically with individual businesses in mind. We are dedicated to understanding the needs of an organisation and working with them to provide tailored training solutions.
