Edge Hotel School is the first hotel school of its kind in the UK, where students learn and work alongside hospitality professionals – helping to run a real-life, AA-recognised luxury country house hotel.   They offer students a combination of a fantastic breadth and depth of hands-on experience with a fast track route to a respected degree in Hotel Management. 

 

The two-year, intensive BA (Hons) Hotel Management degree is awarded by the University of Essex and students also enjoy all the advantages of University campus life, with access to student facilities and accommodation provided by the University.

 

The BA (Hons) Hotel Management degree has three intakes each year: January, May and September.  The Edge Hotel School experience reflects the realities of life in the hospitality industry and is designed to make students more employable and better prepared for a job in hotel management.  

 

Bursaries

Thanks to our close links with many of the hospitality industry’s biggest and brightest names, we are able to offer a number of sponsored scholarships for deserving students.   These are usually worth £3,000 and available for each of the three annual intakes of January, May and September.

In addition, the National Scholarship Programme offers accommodation subsidies of £3,000 available for up to 14 Edge Hotel School students each year who are resident in England and have an annual household income of up to £25,000.

Accommodation

Accommodation on the University of Essex Colchester Campus is guaranteed for all students and is just a few minutes away from Wivenhoe House Hotel.  This is particularly advantageous when you are working shifts.  You’ll also receive free meals while you are on duty in the hotel.

Prices vary from £79 to £110 pw.

Facilities

Not many undergraduate courses operate from a stunning luxury four-star hotel.  Students at Edge Hotel School study and work within Wivenhoe House, a magnificently restored Grade II* listed, Eighteenth century Essex country house, which offers an intriguingly different experience for guests and Hotel Management students alike. 

The hotel offers students the opportunity to work across two different dining experiences; Signatures restaurant serves traditional food and creative dishes, while 2-rosette winner Brasserie Restaurant in the garden wing offers more modern cuisine.  Students also work across the hotel’s 40 elegant rooms and stylish suites as well as the conference meeting and event facilities.

Transport

Edge Hotel School is located less than 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre of Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain.  There is a regular bus service between the University of Essex Colchester Campus and surrounding areas.
