Base: North West - Greater Manchester, Central Lancashire &Liverpool.
Pay: Training allowance £95 per week
Age Range: 16 years – no upper age limit
 
Role Purpose
Dental Nurse Cadets will be expected to undertake all Clinical and Educational training required to achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing which on successful completion will allow registration with the General Dental Council and employment opportunities as a Qualified Dental Nurse in a range of clinical settings.

Workplace Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To work in an allocated clinical placement, unless on day release with the training provider, under the direct supervision of a placement supervisor undertaking relevant role related duties as outline in Appendix 1.
  • To inform Academy staff if you identify placement weaknesses or barriers in relation to treatments and opportunity for achieving your Diploma in Dental Nursing.
  • To monitor and evaluate your own performance at regular intervals with the support of placement mentor and Academy staff during review meetings.
  • To maintain a high standard of patient care and professionalism at all times.
  • To receive supervised training in all clinical areas until competent as directed by appropriate clinical staff.
  • To inform Academy Staff of any concerns including, Health & Safety or Safeguarding issues you may encounter whilst on Clinical Placement or in the Education setting.
  • To ensure you comply with and complete all mandatory training. 
Academic Duties and Responsibilities
  • To attend all training sessions, demonstrations and lectures.
  • To complete all assignments to the given deadlines.
  • To successfully complete all diploma units.
  • To attend all planned meetings and assessments as arranged by the Training Staff and Diploma Assessors.
  • To adhere to polices and procedures of the Skills for Health UK Ltd, Training and Placement providers 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • 2 GCSEs grade C or equivalent qualification
  • Completed statutory education
  • Unrestricted right to live and work in the UK
  • Enthusiastic about a career in Dental Nursing

Delivered through Liverpool and Manchester Dental Hospitals placements in these locations and Central Lancashire.

A Cadet is someone who has a genuine interest in caring for people and hopes to eventually work in the NHS or within the Dental Profession. To achieve this they are prepared to work hard, both academically and in work placements in order to gain the necessary qualifications and experience.

What will you do as a Cadet?
 
You will join an excellent training programme where you will get to work alongside NHS professionals in real situations and meet new friends. You will have a period of induction and during this time we will get to know you. You will have Academy days when you will be able to meet staff from the NHS and begin to understand
the different roles that they have. If you have good attendance record, fulfil the academic requirements and you meet the criteria to go on placement you will then progress onto the Cadetship and begin work placements whilst continuing your studies. During an average week you will spend part of your time with
the education provider and part of your time on placement.
 
Where will your placements be?
 
Your work placements will be in a Dental Practice setting where you will work under the supervision of a mentor. You will get the chance to work with a variety of professionals within the setting. These may include the Dentist, Hygienist or Hygiene Therapist, Dental Nurses, Receptionist and Practice Manager.
You will receive a training allowance.
 
Who will support you through this course?
 
Within the college setting there is a team of tutors and staff who will support and guide you with your qualification. There is also a dedicated Academy Team who will organise your work placements and visit and support you whilst you are on them.
 
Progression opportunities
 
You will have the appropriate skills, training and qualifications to apply for registration with the General Dental Council (GDC). You will then be able to apply for qualified roles within a Dental Practice. Further develop your dental nursing skills with extended duties such as radiography, fluoride application, oral health, sedation and orthodontics. You may also wish to pursue other careers within the Dental profession such as; Dental Hygiene Therapist and Dental Technician.
