Progression opportunities
You will have the appropriate skills, training and qualifications to apply for a variety of roles of further training in the NHS, health and social care sector.
 
Entry criteria:
• 16-18 years of age (some costs involved for over 19) 
• 5 GCSEs grade C and above including Maths, English and Science
• Enthusiastic about a career in Healthcare 
• You will have to fill in an Academy application form and return it to us If you meet our criteria 
• You will be invited to attend college for an interview 
• You will be asked to complete an initial assessment 
• We will send for references 
• Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau and Occupational Health Assessment will be required. 
 
Which colleges are involved in the Healthcare Cadet programme? 
• Greater Manchester - The Academy is working with Ashton Sixth Form College, Bury College, Oldham College, Trafford College,Salford College, Xaverian College and The Manchester College. 
• Cheshire & Merseyside - The Academy is working with St Helens College, Knowsley Community College, Liverpool Community College, West Cheshire College, Wirral Metropolitan College and KGV Southport.  There are different programmes available at each college.

What is a Cadet?
 
A Cadet is someone who has a genuine interest in caring for people and hopes to eventually work in the NHS, health or social care. To achieve this they are prepared to work hard in both college and on work placements in order to gain the necessary qualifications and experience.

The Academy provides up-to-date and comprehensive information, advice and guidance to
all Cadets throughout their programme. We will ensure that you have our full support and
expertise whilst you are with us and will guide you at the end of your programme to help you
on your journey - whether this be study at a higher level or advice on gaining employment.
 
What will you do as a cadet?
 
You will join an excellent training programme where you will get to work alongside NHS professionals in real situations and meet new friends.
 
You will have a period of induction and during this time we will get to know you. You will have Academy days when you will be able to meet staff from the NHS and begin to understand the different roles that they have.
 
If you meet the progression criteria which include a good record of attendance and commitment, you will then progress onto the Cadetship and begin work placements whilst continuing your studies within the college setting.
 
During an average week you will spend part of your time in college and part of your time on placement.
 
Where will your work placements be?
 
Your work placements will be in a variety of NHS, health and social care settings where you will work under the supervision of a mentor.
 
You will get the chance to work on different wards and departments in local hospitals, and you may also experience placements in the community, social care and voluntary organisations.
 
During the programme you will move around different placements so that by the end of the programme you will have some idea of the type of work that you would like to do when you achieve your qualifications.
 
Who will support you through this course?
 
Within the college setting there is a team of tutors and staff who will support and guide you with your qualification. There is also a dedicated Academy Team who will organise your work placements and visit and
support you whilst you are on them.
