BA (Hons) Hotel Management

Edge Hotel School is the first hotel school of its kind in the UK, where students learn and work alongside hospitality professionals – helping to run a real-life, AA-recognised luxury country house hotel.  They enable students to combine a fantastic breadth and depth of hands-on experience with a fast track route to a respected degree in Hotel Management.

Our BA (Hons) Hotel Management degree is awarded by the University of Essex. Students enjoy all the advantages of University campus life, with access to student facilities and accommodation is guaranteed on the University of Essex Colchester Campus for the duration of the course.

This is a fast track, two-year degree programme that is focused on developing your practical skills, discovering your management potential and boosting your employability in the hotel/hospitality industry. 

Delivered through a dynamic combination of study days and hands-on experience, it covers all aspects of this living, working hotel, from front of house and housekeeping to restaurants and kitchens, as well as the planning and operations involved in conference events or weddings. The Edge Hotel School experience is unlike any other student experience. This is an intensive course during which you study for 45 weeks in the year, with around six weeks’ holiday. For most of your time here, you will be on a rota, working shifts like the rest of the team – you have to be professional, presentable and punctual.

On the other hand, this is a student experience, and you will benefit from living on campus, with access to all the University of Essex’s resources and facilities.

Fees

£9,000 per annum (intensive 2 year programme means only two years of tuition fee are payable)

Regrettably, Edge Hotel School can only accept applications from UK and EU fee-paying students.

Bursaries

Thanks to our close links with many of the hospitality industry’s biggest and brightest names, we are able to offer a number of sponsored scholarships for deserving students.   These are usually worth £3,000 and available for each of the three annual intakes of January, May and September.

In addition, the National Scholarship Programme offers accommodation subsidies of £3,000 available for up to 14 Edge Hotel School students each year who are resident in England and have an annual household income of up to £25,000.

Accommodation

Accommodation is guaranteed on the University of Essex Colchester Campus for the duration of the course. Prices vary from £79 to £110 pw.

Transport

Edge Hotel School is located less than 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre of Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain.  There is a regular bus service between the University of Essex Colchester Campus and surrounding areas.

We have three intakes each year:

January, May and September
