Who is this course for?
The BTEC Nationals in Applied Science are a suite of qualifications that reflect aspects of employment with science organisations or organisations that use science and enable learners to develop practical scientific skills. These qualifications will apppeal to learners who prefere porfolio-based assessment covering a variety of scientific investigations. You must have a genuine interest and an aptitude for science.What qualifications or experience do I need?
You will require: A minimum pass in the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science that includes units that will be compatible with those that constitute the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science.What will I study?
All students will follow a course consisting of a selection of units that will serve to 'top up' the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science: this will include 2 Mandatory Units:- *Scientific Investigations (10 credits) *Perceptions of Science (10 credits) and a number of Optional Units from - *Using Statistics in Science (5 credits) *Informatics in Science (5 credits) *Physiology of Human Regulation and Reproduction (10 credits) *Microbial Techniques (10 credits) *Genetics and Genetic Engineering (10 credits)How will I be assessed?
All units will be assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. To achieve a pass grade, you must complete and achieve a minimum of pass in unts to the value of 60 credits (in addition to those of the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma = 120 credits). Units will be assessed by assignments/projects/exercises set and marked by the unit tutors.What qualifications could I achieve?
You achieve the nationally recognised BTEC National Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science specialism Medical Science which is equivalent to 2 GCE A level grades A*-E.What can the course lead to?
A BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to follow a course in Higher Education in areas such as Biological /General Science, Biomdial Science, Forensic Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Food Technology, Analytical Science, Quality Control and Environmental Science.How do I join the course?
