Is this course for me?
This is a broad based practical degree for people who enjoy making objects or designing spaces. You will be introduced to Product Design, Furniture Design, Jewellery Design, Glass, Ceramics, Interior Design, Theatre Design and be taught how to research effectively. In the second year you have the opportunity to specialise in three subjects of your choice and study the software and business skills needed to work as a Professional Designer. During this year you are encouraged to do design commissions, design shows such as (ELDS) East London Design Show and work placements. In the third year you will make a set of work, based around a self-written assignment, focusing on the skills and ideas that have become your strength during the course. This specialist course has been validated by the Open University.
What will I study?
The course is designed to offer a wide range of skills and expertise that will increase your job opportunities. You will be able to make professional links both locally and across London through visits and work placements. There are also international study trips offered during the course. In the second year you can specialise in three subjects - and in your final year you can choose how many and what subjects you want to work in.
These are the compulsory subjects:
Product Design, Furniture Design, Jewellery Design, Glass, Ceramics, Interior Design, Theatre Design Constructed Textiles. Theory of Design Design business studies Software such as Photoshop, Indesign, Rhino.
What are the entry requirements?
This course is suitable for A level, National Diploma, Foundation Art & Design Students and mature students looking for a new career that involves making objects. The course is taught by professional designers.
What can I do next?
This course can lead to employment as a Designer or further study at Masters degree level. You will receive extensive guidance on preparing for either employment or Masters courses after you graduate. Your course finishes with an exhibition of your work at the student `Free Range' exhibition and at the college.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment of all practical and theory work takes place at the end of each semester, after which you will have a tutorial and receive full feedback on your grades. There are no exams. The course is validated through the Open University Validation Service.
