This exciting course is primarily intended for students who are hoping to follow a pathway in science. Students will normally study one additional GCSE (typically mathematics or English) alongside this qualification.
Entry requirements
- Successful completion of a Foundation Learning course e.g. the BTEC Level 1 Foundations in Science, including English and mathematics
or
- Four GCSEs at grade D and above including a science subject and mathematics or English.
Course content
Typical units studied include:
- Chemistry and our Earth
- Energy and our universe
- Applications of chemical substances
- The living body
- Biology and our environment
- Monitoring the environment
- Chemical analysis and detection
- Science in medicine.
How the course is assessed
All units are assessed by coursework which is internally marked and externally moderated.

- Further study: Depending on the grades achieved, students can progress onto our Level 3 Forensic Science course.
