Plumbing apprentices are employed throughout the plumbing industry from sole traders to multinational companies.
What is involved?
Employment, for a minimum of 16 hours per week, with training in both the workplace and at College.
Apprentices must be in receipt of at least the minimum wage for
apprentices, pro rata for part-time learners.
Attendance at College on a regular basis, usually a day release. You will work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ); Key Skills; Employer Rights Responsibilities; and a Technical Certificate.
Qualifications that you have already gained may contribute towards some of the Apprenticeship components.
What is included in the Apprenticeship?
You will work towards an NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing); Key Skills at Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number; the Basic Plumbing Skills Technical Certificate; and Employer Rights and Responsibilities.
What is included in the Advanced Apprenticeship?
You will work towards an NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing); Key Skills at Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number; City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Plumbing Studies; and Employer Rights and Responsibilities.
What can you expect?
Tuition to support the underpinning knowledge required for your NVQ.
The opportunity to work towards additional qualifications relevant to your employment, including ACS.
Regular monitoring and assessment in both the workplace and at College.
How will it be assessed?
There are no formal examinations within the NVQ, your work will be assessed on an ongoing basis, except the ACS Gas qualification.
Assessment of Key Skills will consist of gathering a portfolio of evidence and a test.
