Peter Jones masterclasses in entrepreneurship unveiled at Bournemouth and Poole College
An exciting new course for budding entrepreneurs is to be added to the growing list of business-focused courses available at Bournemouth and Poole College.
The course, inspired by Dragon’s Den pundit and business visionary Peter Jones CBE, will be like no other college course, and is aimed at the brightest most forward thinking young people who want to prove they have what it takes to turn a business idea into reality.
Jenifer Salahuddin, the College’s Head of Business and Professional Studies, is excited about the prospects for the new venture which will operate at the college from September but will form part of the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy.
The College has just received official confirmation to run the course franchise and students will be invited to submit applications in the spring.
What will mark this business course as different is that applicants will be expected to have unique qualities and a ‘go-getter’ attitude.
While they will be students pursuing a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, they will also be expected to have the potential mind-set of genuine entrepreneurs.
Candidates are already likely to have the germ of an idea for a business venture when they come for interview and, from day one, will be expected to see themselves as creative thinkers on projects which may lead to commercial expression - possibly even the creation of their own business enterprise.
The course structure is business-led and involves partnerships with a range of companies and entrepreneurs providing leadership and hands-on business experience.
As Jenifer Salahuddin says: “We are expecting to enroll ambitious, imaginative, young people with the type of vision you see in the TV series such as The Apprentice , The Young Apprentice and Dragon’s Den.
“The course will be set up to create the feeling that the students are working in a real business environment. Designs for the contemporary office styled classrooms are already underway. Students will be expected to deport themselves as if they were young executives. They will wear business suits and learn to think as if they were operating in the boardroom of a company.”
The Peter Jones Enterprise Academy is building a nationwide network of colleges and providers to transform attitudes to entrepreneurship and enterprise education.
Peter Jones said: “My academy will lead the way in creating the entrepreneurs in the central southern region.
“The qualification recognises the talent in young innovators and gives them the opportunity to develop their skills within the framework of a nationally recognised qualification.”
