STUDENT DESIGNS FLY THE FLAG FOR LONDON MILLINERY

Kensington and Chelsea College’s award winning Millinery Department was celebrating a string of successes as its student designs continued to dominate the London fashion scene.
The most recent success was with Fenwick – one the of the UK’s top Department Stores - who has sought out hats designed by the college’s millinery students to sell in store.
Fenwick is stocking the exclusive student collection after the college’s internationally renowned Millinery Department held a private viewing for the store’s fashion buyer Lecia Finch
Impressed by the creativity and quality of the designs on show Miss Finch took less than 20 minutes to select 9 unique pieces for the stores Ascot season range of hats.
The stunning designs are now in line to be sold as one-off pieces at the Bond Street branch of Fenwick.
Miss Finch said: “I was looking for designs that met a particular criteria as people have to wear the hats to the Royal Enclosure at Ascot. It had to be a substantial headpiece or hat. “I think the colours of the chosen pieces are fabulous and the way they have been made is excellent– but then they always are with the college’s millinery students.”
The Millinery Department also recently celebrated three high-profile student wins. Sophie Beale, who studied HNC Millinery at the college last year, was crowned winner in a national competition set by Grazia Magazine to discover Britain’s next great hat designer.
Among the esteemed judging panel for the competition were renowned milliners Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones. Since completing her course Sophie has been working as a freelance milliner and was recently commissioned as a designer for a Chinese commercial millinery company.
Up and coming designers Carly Squire and Rosanna Gould were also crowned winners in a competition set exclusively for the college’s millinery students by London boutique Atelier Millinery. The winning designs are on display at the boutique located in fashionable Kingly Court, London.
Kensington and Chelsea College has nurtured the talents of many gifted milliners including Justin Smith and Gina Foster, and it’s annual end-of-year Millinery and Fashion exhibition is widely regarded as THE place to be to find the industry’s next big thing.

Kensington and Chelsea College offers more than 900 courses including Higher Education. Students on Higher Education courses at the college will have their fees capped at £5285 per year, which is considerably cheaper than many university fees and nearly all students will be eligible to fund this fee from the new subsidised loan scheme which only requires repayments to be made on earnings over £21,000 a
year.
