What Will I do? The ITQ is a vocational qualification which prepares you for employment in a role which uses IT. You could use this qualification simply to develop your IT skills or as an introduction to the role of an IT technician where you will have work experience with IT technicians and help support the college IT infrastructure.

What qualifications will I get? OCR or Edexcel Award, Certificate or Diploma in IT User skills (ITQ) - Level 1.

How will I be assessed? Assignments, projects, observations, professional discussion and work-based evidence (portfolio).

What else do I need to know? The majority of units are worth 3 credits - 9 credits are needed to achieve the Award, 13 credits are needed to achieve the Certificate and 37 credits are needed to achieve the Diploma.

What can I do after this course? You can progress from the Award to the Certificate and then onto the Diploma. Having completed the Certificate you could progress to ECDL, DiDA or BTEC Level 2 IT Practitioners.

What modules are covered? There are a wide range of units to choose from such as: Using the Internet and Email Database Software Using mobile IT devices Desktop Publishing Software Presentation Software Spreadsheet Software Word Processing Software Alternatively, you could select units which develop IT technician skills such as: IT software fundamentals Set up an It system IT security for users Optimise IT system performance Improving productivity using IT With the IT technician route you will have work experience every week with the college IT technicians.

What is the entry process? Apply and be interviewed for the course.

What are the entry requirements? Entry Level 3 qualifications and an interest in IT. Learners who do not have formal qualifications yet are welcome to apply

Duration: Varies, depending on your IT experience; usually up to 1 year for the Certificate and 2 years for the Diploma

Hours/Week: Option 1: 2 hours per week Option 2: for students wishing to train as junior IT Technicians, it will be 6 hours class time per week
