This qualification has 3 main purposes:

  • For students seeking to go on to study Level 6 after going on to complete the Professional Diploma in Law and Practice at Level 3 and go on to become Fellows of ILEX allowing them to operate as lawyers, and work in partnership with solicitors and barristers and exercise rights of audience by representing clients in civil and criminal courts or go on to gain the opportunity to be appointed as a District Judge
  • For students working in the legal sector (e.g. Legal Secretaries, Outdoor Clerks, Paralegals, Citizen Advice Bureau staff, Law Centre staff).
  • For people working in Legal Departments or human resources or recruitment sectors who have a legal element to their work in Public or Private Sector organisations
  • For members of the public who wish to get a good understanding of how the legal system operates.
  • For people who wish to know their legal rights

What qualifications do I need for this course?

There are no actual formal qualifications required to study this course either at Level 3 or Level 6 however ILEX recommend the following:

  • 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including English Language or Literature or equivalent qualifications to study at level 3. For level 6 There are no entry requirements.

As the academic standard is equivalent to honours degree, ILEX advise that you should have substantial experience in the area of law relating to your chosen subject and/or have studied at ‘A’ level, ‘AS’ level, level 3 or equivalent. All students need to be seen by the course tutor prior to commencement of the course.

What will I study?

Students attempting the ILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice would have to complete 5 Units (The optional subjects stated below are only the ones initially chosen by our centre to teach and other subjects maybe taught subject to demand).
 

  • Introduction to Law & Practice (Mandatory Subject)
  • Client Care Skills (Mandatory Subject)
  • Legal Research Skills (Mandatory Subject)
  • Criminal Litigation (Optional Subject)
  • Criminal Law (Optional Subject)
