Junior apprentice – at last a real business studies lesson!

coffee-pcOver the past six months or so I’ve been thinking over my time at school and how much of my education I actually use today, and one subject always comes back up – business studies. I studied it at GCSE level and I can honestly say 90% of what I was taught (or at least remember being taught) has little resemblance to my day-to-day life. This may just mean I’m either going about running a business the wrong way or I just wasn’t listening to the important bits in class. Because the only thing I remember from my GCSE business studies classes is that I shouldn’t put a cup of coffee on top of a PC, I shouldn’t put my hand in a shredder along with the paper and that Tesco was formed by mixing the founder’s name with his supplier’s name!

So when I first learned that the BBC were going to launch a search for a Junior Apprentice I figured this could at last be the business studies lesson we’ve been waiting for. In fact I’m a bit gutted it wasn’t launched a couple of years ago because I probably would’ve applied. I just hope that in the Junior Apprentice the candidates are going to be picked for their genuine entrepreneurial flair and not for the entertainment value.

Oh, and by the way, my cup of tea is next to my laptop and I got a ‘B’ in Business Studies.
