Blog Your Way To Work Success!Posted: 4th of June 2015 by
A lot of people like to write blogs. It is a good way to reveal your thoughts, talk about things you love, and maybe even interact with others with similar interests. But could blogging actually help you when it comes to work? Whether you are at school, college, planning to go to university, or looking for an apprenticeship or a job, blogging can be of real use for getting you into your dream career. All it takes is a little bit more focus on your blog and what you are writing about.
A blog is something that you do because you want to – often writing about something you love, whether that is football or fashion. Now just imagine that you could get a job related to that thing you love, the thing that you spend your spare time learning, reading, watching, or writing about. Surely that would be better than doing a job that didn’t interest you? Besides, it only follows that if you are working doing something you enjoy, you will naturally put in more effort, enjoy it more, and quite probably succeed. Work won’t always feel like work and you will be able to enjoy most if not all of your working life. A blog can help this to happen.
So, let’s suppose you want to work in fashion – then start a fashion blog. You will need to update it regularly, which means you will also need to keep coming up with new ideas. This shouldn’t be a problem if you love fashion. Reading fashion magazines that you love, for example, will probably stir a whole load of ideas that you can write about. Although you may not realise it, this will improve your knowledge of the subject.
It is here that the blog really comes into its own, as it offers proof of your commitment to your area of interest. Rather than just saying you like fashion, you blog will prove it. As well as demonstrating your dedication, the blog will also show your knowledge and skills. You could use it to showcase your own designs, or offer a genuine outlet if you wanted to get into writing about fashion.
Among the skills that running a blog can teach you are writing, communication, research, networking, promotion, social media skills, marketing, and more. These are all very desirable skills in the modern workplace, especially if you want to work in an area like marketing or P.R., and can be used in a variety of job roles. As a result, the very act of running your blog will make you more employable – even outside of your desired area of expertise!
When it comes to applying for jobs, a well-written blog can be a real plus for you. it acts as proof of your skills, like a portfolio of your work, allowing the employer to actually see some of your work or ideas in practice. It will also show that you are serious about the subject and let employers see a little of your personality too. Of course, to make the most of this you will want to keep your blog on subject, and don’t post anything that you wouldn’t want your prospective employer to read – but you knew that anyway, right?
A blog can certainly help you land a job that you love, showing your dedication will put you ahead of other applicants – even those who may be better qualified than you! Actions may speak louder than words, but with a blog you can combine the two to get your dream career started!
