There’s never been a more exciting time to get into the hospitality and catering industry. Not only is it the fastest growing sector, it also offers the most diverse range of career opportunities so there’s something for everyone.

The UK is fast becoming ‘the place to go’... for business, learning, socialising, holidays and living. So dining outlets are springing up or expanding across the nation, and they are all keen to recruit professionally trained staff at all levels not just for now but for the future.

There is no single correct route to starting a career in the catering and hospitality industry so visit to find out how you can start your career!

Hotel, hospitality and catering apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are the smart way to gain qualifications and earn while you learn. You get work experience, a paid job and promotion possibilities from day one. We offer hotel and catering apprenticeships across all sectors – for chefs, bar staff and waiters, housekeepers and cleaners, and also in sales and marketing roles, banqueting and conferencing, events, functions and outside catering.

Because the apprenticeship scheme is designed with the help of employers, apprentices fit into their job role effectively, develop the appropriate skills and secure on-going employment. All learning and assessment is conducted ‘on the job’ so you can remain focused without the interruption of off-site study.

Hospitality traineeships

Traineeships are a great way to build up your existing skills or learn new ones, and gain valuable work experience. And there’s a real chance of a permanent job at the end. If you’ve recently left school or college, cannot find paid employment or you are unemployed (or working less than 16 hours a week) and aged between 16 and 24, a traineeship programme in the hotel and catering sector delivered by HIT may be the answer.

We work with over 10,000 employers across the country who are always looking for enthusiastic young staff. Through our traineeship programme we prepare young people for the world of work, giving you a wide range of employability skills you will need to be successful in the workplace.
