Challenge yourself in 2015
Posted: 29th of January 2015 by Anonymous
With the end of January comes lighter days, broken resolutions, payday after the longest month in the year and a new focus on what 2015 could bring. The New Year often makes us consider what we want from the year and brings a pressure to do something different and make this year different from the last. These thoughts often pass by the time February comes, but how about acting on them and making 2015 a year of exciting new experiences?
Lewis Goodgers decided to do just that and applied for a volunteering placement in China with Lattitude Global Volunteering. Lewis was readily accepted and began to prepare himself for his new adventure - teaching children English in the town of Yuxi, in the province of Yunnan in China.
Having arrived in China, Lewis took the challenge of teaching in his stride. The kids he taught made his experience incredibly rewarding: ‘the kids were amazing, they were all so willing to learn and work hard that it made every day enjoyable. The daunting task of teaching lessons to over 60 children slowly begins to, with time, become the highlight of your day.’
Lewis spent five months volunteering in China and loved his experience: ‘the time I spent at the school in China was so humbling and educational; it was everything I had hoped it would be and more.’ However, Lewis does recommend volunteering in China with a warning:
‘A word of warning, volunteering in a country, especially China, gets under your skin. It moulds you into a person that you could have never imagined you would become. The country will never leave your memory and you will always remember your time there as the best of your life. No matter how hard you try, you can never articulate to someone how amazing China and the time you spent volunteering there was.’
