Chasing A Dream? Why You Should Pause & Enjoy The MomentPosted: 20th of May 2015 by
Since you’re here, chances are you are thinking of your future. Perhaps you have your sights set on a particular career or qualification, or maybe you are still weighing up your options and looking for a little advice or inspiration? Whatever stage in the process you are at, there is every chance that you are focussed on the future as you consider your options or chase your dreams. There is plenty of great advice available to help you make the best of your opportunities, but sometimes it is worth taking a moment to pause for breath. In fact, whatever stage you are at in your life, it is great advice to just spend a few moments each day taking it all in.
It seems that we are all so focused on a destination or a goal that we end up forgetting to appreciate the here and now. It can be the simplest of pleasures, like the warmth of the sun on your skin or sitting and reading a good book, to spending some quality time with your friends or family.
Life really is like a journey, with all sorts of moments along the way. These may be the monumental things, like leaving school, but there are also include the smaller things, like really enjoying an ice cream. Plus, taking a few moments to appreciate where you are in life right now can also help when it comes to realising your dreams for the future.
You might want to imagine that you are sat on a mountain like some sort of wise old sage, just looking down over your life as it is right now. There will have been times in the past when you were happy, and also moments when you felt sad, but from your high-up vantage point you can just gaze down over them all. You don’t need to get wrapped up in the highs and lows of life, instead just observe them quietly. It may sound a little bit odd, but it can help you get some perspective and also allow you to think clearly about what it is you want – especially if something is troubling you. You can also begin to work out what it is that you really want.
Have you been chasing a goal that perhaps isn’t your own dream at all? It is all-too-easy to get wrapped up in what we see in the media, or what our friends or parents think, but to really live your life you need to see your own dreams. This may seem daunting, but if you just relax and breathe deeply (maybe head up to that mountain again), you can gain some balance and perspective on where you are, and where you want to go next.
Only by stopping to take in the moment will you be able to assess where you are, and also what you need to do to get to where you want to be. Your goals may seem a long way off, but if you take things in stages, you can break the journey down. Some parts will seem to go fast (as if you were on a jet plane), while others will seem like you are stuck in the mud and not getting very far.
Your path is your own, so try to take time to enjoy it. Notice the small things that make you smile each day, look around you, take it all in, and plan for your next move all at the same time. Your life is precious – so let yourself enjoy it, wherever it takes you.
