Regardless of who you are, young or old, going through an interview is a nerve-racking process.  Below are some top tips from Digital IT apprentices who have been through the process, to help you prepare for your apprenticeship interview.

BE PREPARED

  • Research the company beforehand
  • Be on time
  • Dress for the role and organisation, first impressions count
  • Prepare questions for the interview, make sure the role is what you want and the company is right for you

BE PERSONABLE

  • Let your personality shine through
  • Just be yourself, be personable
  • Showcase your interest in IT, through hobbies or work experience
  • Your personal skills and attitude are key to being successful

BE PASSIONATE

  • Don’t be limited by how well you have done academically
  • If you are passionate about what you do, you will be good at it
  • Be enthusiastic, companies are looking for young people to shape the industry

BE POSITIVE

  • You don’t need to have experience; this will be taught
  • Be willing to learn everything
  • Sell yourself; let the interviewer know why you should be employed
  • Be confident and ask questions

BE HONEST

  • Tell the truth
  • Don’t exaggerate your capabilities
  • Don’t except the job if the job on offer is not right for you

PERSEVERE

‘If you are not successful first time, don’t give up, after 2 unsuccessful interviews, I found the perfect organisation for me.  The process made me realise the importance of holding out for the right job and I found mine’
