Kat – International Television Marketing Apprentice

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

I was young and didn’t have much of a clue about what I wanted to do so I started University studying a course that I thought I would enjoy. I also had a part-time job at a cinema where I would help organise special events for film releases and realised that the course I chose wasn’t what I wanted, and Uni probably wasn’t for me. I started researching different ways to kick start a career within the TV and Film industry and found WarnerMedia’s Early Careers Programme. This seemed like the best possible opportunity for me as I love working and getting stuck into new responsibilities and getting a qualification whilst doing that is an added bonus!

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

Starting a career within the entertainment industry can be tough and quite daunting but so far, I have experienced so much support from WarnerMedia as well as Multiverse (my apprenticeship provider). I am able to develop my skills, learn new ones as well as improve myself personally and professionally! I love having this support when it comes to networking, you are able to meet so many apprentices in a variety of different roles in a professional and social setting which helps me to understand every aspect of the company

What has been your highlight so far?

As an apprentice you are thrown into lots of different meetings, and you get the chance to hear about some amazing campaigns, news, and media updates. You also get a chance to work on these projects and seeing them come to life has got to be my highlight! I was shocked at how much impact my role could have on a larger team and campaign and how valued you can be at such a large company! You also get to meet so many people virtually and learn about how different aspects of the business work like marketing, finance, HR etc. which is really interesting for someone who wants to carry on in this industry

What advice would you give to people thinking of doing an apprenticeship?

If you’re unsure whether Uni is for you, I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship. It allows you to learn valuable skills and gain a qualification in a real-world setting preparing you for what it is really like to work in a large company. Have a think about what job you want, what skills you need for it and do some in depth research into the companies offering apprenticeships. Use LinkedIn to seek out panels, learning and networking opportunities. There is so much advice out there to help you start a career in every single industry, you just have to look for it!
