Gemma Ford - Duty Manager

Posted: 13th of March 2015 by Chris

She enrolled on a Team Leading Intermediate apprenticeship with HIT Training to help equip her for a more supervisory role, and was soon promoted to Restaurant Manager. Having then achieved her qualification, Gemma set her sights on taking responsibility for a bigger team, embarked on a Hospitality Supervision & Leadership Advanced Apprenticeship, and was quickly appointed Events and Functions Manager at the hotel. Just six months later, Gemma was again celebrating her rapid career progression and her new appointment as Duty Manager.  She also now mentors a junior manager and is working with HIT to help embed the qualification into on the job training.

“I wanted to get the most out of my training and qualifications so that I could develop a real career path,” explains Gemma. “I had to work hard and combine my studies with long shifts, but I’ve always applied what I’ve learnt to my job, and it’s been great to see how that has paid off. My employers are keen to help all their staff progress and are really supportive of work-based learning – I’ve had a fantastic journey so far!”

“We’ve been working with HIT for more than six years now and Gemma is a great example of someone who can really go far with some tailored support and training,” says Gemma’s boss, Nick Benatar. “Gemma is always enthusiastic and was really determined to get the most of her new qualifications. She worked extremely hard throughout the courses and I can see that she has really applied her learning to her new role - she’s a great asset to the business.”
