Oliver Gregory Advanced Level Apprenticeship in SurveyingPosted: 16th of February 2015 by Naomi
OLIVER GREGORY, 23, IS WORKING TOWARDS AN ADVANCED LEVEL APPRENTICESHIP IN SURVEYING
“After I left school I had an offer from Plymouth University but I was concerned about the fi nancial commitments of a degree, so I looked for alternative options. When I was offered an apprenticeship with Balfour Beatty, it was way too good to turn down!
“My time is occupied with a variety of different tasks, from valuing projects and liabilities, to working alongside engineers – I sometimes spend three or four days of the week out on site visits.
“The apprenticeship is really flexible, if I need to take time out for revision or exams then that’s fine, and Balfour Beatty encourages me to participate in other courses relevant to my future career as well.
“Balfour Beatty offers real-life experience that you just wouldn’t gain through academics; last year I worked on a project replacing joints on the QEII bridge. As soon as I started I felt part of an organised and professional team. I regularly interact with people from across the business and now I even make presentations to the company’s new intake of apprentices!”
