Apprentice Engineering Manufacturing Technician

  • Manage own learning against ILP and be accountable for development of Apprenticeship portfolio as required by the Apprenticeship Standard
  • Attend training provider full time or day release as requested; Leading to completion of a level 4 Apprenticeship and associated Alstom required competence and capability
  • Gain Knowledge and understanding in how to provide technical support, solutions and direction across a number of disciplines including traffic management systems, new train control systems, the wheel/rail interface, remote condition monitoring and the design, implementation and operation and evolving requirements of a digital railway
  • Gain understanding of systems engineering and information systems and security and detailed understanding of the physical and systems interfaces across
  • Work towards understand of the Railway and the operating requirements, implications and constraints of these
  • Operate at an appropriate level carrying out designated tasks within the team assigned
  • Participate in Company Initiatives, in particular to be engaged in Continuous Improvement activity
  • targeted at all aspects of Alstom performance
  • Conduct oneself at all times in a manner that reflects positively on Alstom
  • To comply with Alstom Procedures and Code of Ethics
  • Working alongside technicians on rolling stock and in workshops
  • Investigations into technical failures
  • Development of overhaul specifications and instructions
  • Development of technical solutions to failures
  • Carrying out maintenance optimisation studies
  • Software validation [on product]
  • Development of trials and modifications
  • Writing technical briefing documents
  • Train-Ground communications and diagnostic data analysis

Annual wage: £12,720.00

Working week:  Monday to Friday between 08.00am and 15.30pm (subject to change depending on location).

Total hours per week: 35.00

Expected duration: 4 years

Desired qualifications:

  • To apply, you must have (or be predicted to have) a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5 (A*-C+) including English, Maths and either a Science, Technology or Engineering related subject or 90+ credits in an Engineering BTEC at Level 3; or equivalent qualifications.
