We have an opportunity for a Level 3 or Level 5/6 Apprentice Utilities Technician to join us on our award-winning programme in Taunton, starting in Summer/Autumn 2022.

As an Apprentice at Stantec, you will be given responsibility from the start. Our industry leading programme is designed with your development in mind, to create exceptional Designers and Engineers of the future. We will pair you with industry professionals, who will guide and mentor you through the initial phase of your career. Together, we will build your technical expertise. You will have access to latest Industry standard digital software and the opportunity to work with our clients to provide sustainable solutions. Throughout your journey with us, You’ll be involved in the design and delivery of projects from start to finish.

Our Apprenticeships allow you to learn whilst you earn as you study for an academic qualification. You’ll get the chance to expand your knowledge by attending University either in block or one day a week on day release, whilst simultaneously learning from our industry experts on the job, allowing you to combine your learning with invaluable experience.

In this role, you join a utilities team, that provides end-to-end utility solutions. Utilities are what keeps the water flowing and the electricity supplied to switch on the lights. There are four main utilities that we all use each day, Water, Gas, Electricity and Telecommunications. You will be working directly to support with the planning and coordination within our utilities space, which develop the implementation of sustainable end-to-end utility solutions that strengthen the infrastructure in our communities. Your role will be key for building relationships with a range of stakeholders that supports utilities design developments. Some of your day-to-day activities could include: 

  • Building relationships and acting as a liaison between our internal utilities and planning teams to coordinate, record and manage key information between the client and stakeholders.
  • Collecting key information and data from a range of sources and stakeholders to support the planning and implementation of utilities projects.
  • Using Computer Aided Design (CAD) to produce drawings for utilities designs developments.
  • Ensure strong and auditable records management is maintained across all engagement.
  • Constructively challenge teams to address utility issues through design development, considering factors such as environmental impacts and low carbon emissions.
  • To assist with the production of accurate and concise Technical Reports

About you

For our apprenticeships no previous experience is required.  You will be a positive and proactive team player who demonstrates enthusiasm for engineering and a willingness to apply yourself in a workplace environment.

What we are looking for:

  • A keen interest in utilities and lower carbon solutions
  •  For Level 3 apprenticeship you will need 5x GCSEs including a minimum of 5 or above in Maths and English.
  • For Level 5 / 6 apprenticeship you will need 3 A Levels Grade B or above in (Maths, Further Maths or Science) and/or BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering – DMM to include Further Engineering Mathematics.
  • A good level of computer literacy including MS Office.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to design, plan and organise parts of projects
  • Can demonstrate a range of clear communication skills, presenting information through verbal, visual and written methods
