Assistant Accountant - Accounts Payable (Apprentice) with Destiny Foods

Are you interested in studying towards an AAT Qualification? Destiny foods, an exciting company, are looking for an apprentice to become a key member within the Finance team while studying towards either AAT level 3 or 4.

The current position has become vacant due to the previous incumbent making a career change. The assistant accountant – Accounts Payable will report directly the Management Accountant and the role will be responsible for the following:



  • Supplier account creation: creating supplier accounts in the company ERP system after having completed company checks

Direct supplier Invoices

  • Processing direct supplier invoices on a timely basis through the company "POP" system
  • GRNI: monitoring the balances in the system (generated through the POP system) and liaising with the purchasing team as and when to ensure the outstanding balances are reflective of the invoices outstanding.
  • GRNI: as part of the month-end process providing the Management Accountant with the outstanding GRNI for the month
  • Dealing with any supplier queries

Indirect supplier Invoices

  • Processing indirect supplier invoices on a timely basis, after having obtained the appropriate authorisation and nominal coding from the relevant cost centre manager
  • As part of the month-end process provide the Management Accountant with accruals information based on invoices sent for authorisation that have not yet been returned approved
  • Dealing with any supplier queries


Monthly payment runs

  • Generating monthly payment runs on a timely basis

Statement reconciliations

  • Doing regular monthly supplier statement reconciliations to ensure that all invoices have been received and processed correctly on the system

Processing indirect intercompany recharges

  • Ensuring that all intercompany recharges are correctly authorised, logged and accounted for as part of the month end process


  • Third party and Intercompany purchases reconciliation: weekly financial reconciliation between the general ledger purchase balances and detailed product by product system downloads and investigations into any discrepancies
  • Intercompany sales ledger and purchase ledger reconciliations checking prices invoiced by CDD holding to DF and DF invoiced to CDD UK to make sure that there are no anomalies
  • Support procurement with any adhoc analysis that could be required for generating cost saving projects
  • Involvement in any adhoc projects/ tasks within the finance team

The Finance team, work in a pressured and time sensitive environment. The individual will be expected to work the hours required in line with business and month-end requirements.

It is key that the individual coming into this role is aware that they are making a 100% commitment to the finance team and that they will do what needs to be done in order to meet the challenging targets. They will be 100% accountable for their success in this role.

Qualifications Required:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) grade 4-9 including English and Maths.
  • 3 A-levels (or equivalent qualifications) at Grades C and above
  • Ideally studying for a recognised accountancy qualification (preferably having completed AAT 3 or equivalent)
