Are you an aspiring design engineer looking to make a difference to the world around you? Do you want the chance to grow, learn, and be supported by industry leaders? This ever-changing world will be largely shaped by the buildings put into it; and we know it’s often the newest minds who have the brightest ideas.

As a leading international firm of consulting engineers, we didn’t build a 150-year legacy by standing still. The built environment is where our design-led work can carve out a better future for the planet and its people. For us, it’s about putting heart, soul, innovation and sustainability into the buildings we work on.

We play a major role in driving sustainable development. We help create some of the most innovative low-carbon buildings, pushing the limit on what’s possible. Our projects cover almost every sector – from healthcare, residential and retail, to defence, arts & heritage and education – ranging from small studies and reports to large-scale developments valued at more than £4billion.

What you’ll be doing

You will be a designer of engineering systems working towards professional engineer status as an Incorporated Engineer. Your duties will include a wide range of activities across a variety of building projects. This could include discussions with clients and architects, calculations, preparing engineering system designs on computers, writing specifications and monitoring progress on construction sites. There could be opportunities to specialise in electrical, mechanical or public health engineering.

You will develop and enhance your technical and management skills in a variety of applications and job roles, including design and project management.  Additional learning support is provided via a comprehensive programme of live events and E-Learning. You will receive mentoring and supervision throughout your Apprenticeship.

You will receive one-day study leave a week during term times to attend university to work towards your BSc or BEng Building Services Engineering degree. The Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship for Building Services Design Engineer will provide a route to gain Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.

The typical duration for this apprenticeship is 66 months, but this will depend on the previous experience of the apprentice and opportunities to gain the full range of competence.

We have opportunities available across a number of sites including:  Bristol, Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds, London and Plymouth.

What do you need?

Applications are welcome, you’ll need to be good at maths and physics and have keen analytical and problem-solving skills.

Candidates will typically have at least two A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science, this is dependent on university requirement as some universities may require 3 A-levels. We encourage applications from candidates who have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Building Services Design Technician or a similar HNC, NVQ or ONC.

A genuine interest in developing a career within consulting Engineering, with fresh ideas, enthusiasm, confidence and an entrepreneurial, creative spirit.
