As a volunteer on of our Care in Argentina placement, you will be providing centres for children and adults with disabilities, as well as children’s homes with much needed support.
Following the economic crisis that took place in 2001 - 2002, Argentina has a very real need for volunteers. Many of the children that Projects Abroad works with have been abandoned by their parents, as they can no longer afford to support them. Children’s homes are often understaffed and as a volunteer you will be providing that added extra element of individual care and attention that every child needs, but which the staff rarely get the chance to provide.
Your role as a volunteer will depend on whether you are working with adults or children. The age group of the children will determine the requirements that need to be met. Activities that you can expect to get involved in include playing with the children, helping them with their homework and running workshops that focus on music, painting and pottery, as well as looking after a home’s garden or pets.
The more time and time and effort you put in, the more rewarding your placement will be for both the children you are working with and for yourself.
Overall, volunteering in Argentina was an amazing experience; the country is beautiful, the people are so kind and the Projects Abroad staff in Argentina was so helpful and they constantly made sure I had everything I needed. - Jessica Baron
