Childcare Apprentice

Job Description

Responsible to: Manager/Deputy Manager

Unqualified staff will be encouraged to work towards their Level 2/Level 3 Qualification in Early Years and show a willingness to gain relevant qualifications

Purpose of post:

  • To work as part of a team to assist in providing a safe, secure and stimulating environment for children
  • To plan and assess based on children’s individual needs and support them in their development
  • To be committed to safeguarding and creating an inclusive environment
  • To work under the direction of the Manger/Deputy Manager and to give support to other colleagues within the setting

Main Duties:

  • To show an ability to work on own initiative at times
  • To be a key person to a small group of children, which will include the planning and assessment of their key groups in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage and tracking their progress – you will be supported by a mentor in the setting as you gain and develop an understanding of children’s development, their needs and the provision of planning and assessing
  • Ensuring children’s basic needs are always met, including but not limited to; good hygiene routines, nappies, meals encouraging good nutrition and sociable eating etc.
  • To plan and carry out large group activities meeting the needs of individual children and working with their interests
  • To document the development of the children within your key group and share this with the parents/carers of the children within your group - you will be supported by a mentor in the setting as you gain and develop an understanding of children’s development, their needs and the provision of planning and assessing
  • Setting up a safe and stimulating environment for children, this may include packing away
  • Promote positive attitudes and behaviour at all times by providing a non-discriminatory environment which vales and respects each child and family
  • Ensuring an inclusive and safe environment having regard for SEN and safeguarding procedures and legislation

  • Contribute to planning and implementation of the daily life and running of Bright Start Day Care and ensure others do so with you
  • To stimulate and care for the children and take an active interest in Bright Start’s ethos
  • To follow instruction but when unsure check with Manager or Deputy Manager or those in charge
  • To supervise and ensure the care for children’s physical well-being and report any changes or concerns immediately to. Deputy or manager or those in charge.
  • To implement and have good knowledge of all the policies and procedures and communicate with all parents, and staff at all levels
  • Record by written and verbal methods where necessary accidents, injuries and daily routine issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of the nursery and all the people who we come in to contact within the Bright Start Day Care Ltd
  • Know where and what the policies and procedures of the setting mean and contain and how to carry them out.

Staff:

  • Work as part of a team that is co-ordinated by the manager/deputy manager
  • Participate and contribute  in staff meetings and planning meetings and parents’ consultations, these may be out of nursery hours

General

  • To follow and adhere to Bright Start Day Care policies and procedures at all times
  • Work as a positive and flexible member of the team and under the you may be required to cover at another Bright Start Day Care
  • You may be required to work extra hours due to staff shortages; this will be repaid back using time-in-lieu at a time which is suitable to the nursery
  • Personal development
  • You will be required to undertake further training as you develop
