The Gosport and Fareham Multi-Academy Trust (GFM) seek to offer paid internships for the role of
‘Community support intern’. We have 6 opportunities to offer.
You will provide new capacity and support to the teams across the GFM schools and buildings.
You will have a keen interest in developing your skills for working with people and be able over time
identify your specialist skills and develop a strong competence in a broad range of commonly used
approaches to serve our community purpose.
The successful intern will be able to demonstrate a desire to develop the key skills and/or embark on
the first steps within a career of working within the community.
To ensure the safety and satisfaction of all users of the school’s Community facilities by providing a
professional reception and overall support service.To assist the Community team in the safe operation
of the facilities on behalf of the school.
We promote a customer service led approach and you will be supported to development toward being
â To deal with customers in a friendly, professional manner.
â To wear the prescribed uniform at all times when on duty.
â To participate in any marketing/promotional activities.
â To ensure the comfort and safety of all users.
â Supervision of the facilities and maintenance of the equipment.
â To provide a reception service to users of Community facilities.
â To provide and serve light refreshments for sale to users of Community Facilities.
We actively use IT systems and you will be supported to development toward being able to:
â Input data into school information systems, produce appropriate reports and statistics in order to
facilitate the best use of the services, resources and site.
â Collect, and receipt as required, all payments taken relating to the provision of community
department services e.g. hire fees, swim charges, sale of equipment, sale of refreshments.
Safety is of paramount importance and you will be supported to development toward being able to:
â To maintain vigilant supervision of all Community facilities to ensure the safety of users at all
â To ensure that all users are using the facilities properly and safely.
â To comply with the school’s Health and Safety procedures at all times
â To carry out monitoring of all areas and report on any findings in the prescribed manner.
â To report any matters of concern to the Community Manager immediately.
â To ensure that high standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout and to carry out any
cleaning duties as necessary.
â To administer first aid (subject to appropriate training).
â Record all incidents in the Accident Report Book and report to the Community Manager.
â To assist in ensuring safety and welfare of all Community users
â To ensure that all equipment is stored cleanly, safely and securely when not in use.
Other Duties you should expect to work toward:
â Reacting to changing circumstances e.g. having to change a venue at short notice, liaising with
colleagues as necessary.
â Report concerns to the Community team.
â Regular liaison with hirers in respect of bookings and hire terms and conditions.
â Public –To assist with general enquiries to include telephone, email and in person. To deal with
any confrontational situations appropriately. Actively promote Community facilities.
â Suppliers – to report any maintenance requirements as required.
â Finance staff – to liaise regarding income received from hirers and refreshment sales.
â Estates Staff – to liaise regarding the use of the Community facilities and any
â Teaching and learning staff – to liaise regarding the school use of facilities e.g. exams, parent
â Carry out such duties as may be reasonably allocated within the scope of this post by the School
Leadership or Community Manager.

Essential skills, experience and
Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work
effectively, both in a team and individually without supervision, IT
literate and confident in using IT. Good written and verbal
communication skills and be able to relate well to school staff,
parents, pupils and wider community. Ability to maintain
confidentiality. Ability to handle cash/cheques/contactless payment
and keep accurate records. Capacity to work accurately under
pressure and to meet deadlines and effectively organise frequently
changing priorities. Physically fit to meet the demands of the role
which include regularly moving and handling supplies, materials,
furniture and equipment, Team-player, personable, approachable,
emotionally intelligent with a sense of humour.
Sport or Leisure experience is desirable.
GCSE Passes in English and Maths or equivalent Level 1 and 2
