About us

Airbus pioneers sustainable aerospace for a safe and united world. We’re constantly innovating to provide efficient and technologically-advanced solutions in aerospace, defence, and connected services. In commercial aircraft, we offer modern and fuel-efficient airliners and associated services. We are also a European leader in defence and security and one of the world's leading space businesses. In helicopters, we provide the most efficient civil and military rotorcraft solutions and services worldwide.

This exciting apprenticeship is your first step towards becoming a Skilled Aircraft Fitter. Over 3 years, you will work on either:

  • the drill-off and assembly of both metallic and composite components of the wing box structure; or
  • the installation and testing of the aircraft flying controls, fuel and electrical systems.

As well as a regular salary, you’ll receive second-to-none training within our manufacturing plant and work towards vocational qualifications with no fees. By growing your knowledge and experience, and developing these skills throughout the programme, you’ll make an immediate contribution when you enter the workforce.

What you will be doing

Your Craft Plant Manufacturing Aero Apprenticeship will start with predominantly classroom-based learning and progress to a lot of hands-on learning in our Broughton Manufacturing Plant. You’ll:

  • Learn about engineering operations at our partner college, Coleg Cambria, to complete the Level 2 Foundation course, within your first year
  • Achieve a number of technical certificates towards your national diploma
  • Learn a range of different skills and methods alongside our skilled fitters and operators
  • Complete your level 3 vocational qualification.

You’ll also work towards an NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering and a National Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering. In some cases, there may also be opportunities to obtain an additional Level 3 Electrical Unit.

Skills

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C or 4, which must include Maths, English Language and Science (either core and additional/double award, or Physics), or
  • Equivalent qualifications.

We can also consider other qualifications such as Engineering BTEC Level 2, Engineering Diploma, Principle Learning, PEO Level 2 and Pathways to Apprenticeships as two GCSEs. These must be in addition to the core GCSE subjects stated above.

Benefits

As an Airbus apprentice, you’ll be working on real projects while studying to achieve your qualifications. That’s why we make sure you’re properly rewarded for the work you do. You’ll be entitled to:

  • A competitive salary
  • 25 days annual leave including bank holidays
  • 35-hour working week
  • Access to an independent, 24-hour confidential counselling service.

Please note, we love your interest in working for Airbus but we do ask that you make only one application. We encourage you to take time to decide which of our exciting opportunities is right for you and then submit an application that best represents you, your skills and experience in connection with the role you have selected.

One application: Make It Possible, Make It Happen, Make It… Count!

Please ensure that a covering letter detailing your interest in aerospace and motivation to join this apprenticeship programme is included in your application.
