Starting salary £13,125 per year
As pioneers of the world’s most advanced power generation systems, our business needs IT and data innovators. Utilising leading technologies, we enable our business to design, manufacture and service cutting-edge products in Civil Aerospace, Defence and Power Systems.
This is your opportunity to join a dynamic and critical part of our business. Our degree apprenticeship programme is all about pioneering new approaches, empowering us to think differently, and taking our IT and data innovation to a whole new level.
You could find yourself finding ways to make aeroplanes fly for longer using less fuel. Or developing a data lake for Defence customers. It might be that you’re helping our power generation customers to understand the health of their MTU engines. Or delivering analytic solutions that have a direct financial impact on the nuclear industry. You could even develop applications that will drive cross-team collaboration. These are just some of the ways in which you could drive our future success.
Our IT and Digital teams work closely together and, over the three to four years you spend on this degree apprenticeship programme, you’ll have opportunities to work across both. We’ll help to bolster your academic studies by giving you real-life placements across our IT function and in Data Innovation. That will see you spending time in different business areas, as well as in our centres of innovation and excellence. It’s experience that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to become an IT or data expert, ready to provide the most cutting-edge solutions in an area like software engineering, business analysis, cyber security or data analysis.
What you’ll do
In the first 18 months, your focus will be on developing a solid grounding in the data and technology space as well as getting to know Rolls-Royce. Then, you’ll begin to specialise. Whether it’s cyber security that really interests you, or addressing customer needs by analysing and optimising data, this programme is a brilliant stepping stone to a technical career. Your placements could include working on a corporate IT project (we’ve just introduced a global, cloud-based HR management system), being part of a data innovation ‘cell sprint’ (a multi-skilled team that delivers fast-paced projects) or helping our business units to develop future opportunities. You might look at how we can best manage our ecosystem of suppliers so we always get what we need when we need it, or research the latest Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning technologies to determine how they could benefit our business.
Ultimately, this degree apprenticeship is about giving you the grounding and skills you need to take on a specialist role – you could go on to become a Solutions Analyst, a Business Analyst, a Cyber Security Specialist, a Data Engineer or a Data Analyst. Wherever your apprenticeship takes you, you’ll be helping to embed a digital first culture by putting data and technology at the heart of our business.
What you’ll need
Three A-levels (or equivalent) at grade B or above, including at least one numerate subject (obtained or predicted). Plus two GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths at grade 5/B and English Language at Grade 4/C or above. Creative, an agile thinker and naturally curious, you should be someone who’s passionate about using data and IT– you look beyond the obvious and to find better ways of doing things. You certainly won’t be afraid to challenge us to help drive improvements, and you’ll be passionate about the possibilities that come from working in such a fast-paced and innovative environment. Beyond that, we’ll want to see strong communication, organisational, team-working and problem-solving skills – all of which you’ll develop even further over the course of your apprenticeship.
What you’ll get
A competitive salary
A competitive pension, and 33 days’ holiday per year (inclusive of bank holidays)
Career support from day one
Work towards a BSc Honours degree in Digital & Technology Solutions
Outdoor and experiential learning on our course with the Outward Bound Trust
