Certified Actuarial Analyst (CAA) is a professional qualification provided by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and is available to everyone – you just need to LOVE maths!

The CAA will equip you with useful business and finance skills by developing your technical, strategic and analytical knowledge.  The qualification takes 2-3 years to complete.

A head for figures
If you love maths, analysing data and statistics and if you are good at solving problems then this qualification will be right for you.  There are no academic requirements to get started; you just need to be good at maths.

What’s involved
The CAA qualification consists of six computer based exams, all of which you can study for online. An apprenticeship with an actuarial or financial firm is a good way to get started once you finish school or college and the CAA qualification forms part of an apprenticeship programme. Candidates will benefit from learning, earning and gaining work experience skills that a university graduate might not have.

Once qualified or part qualified these are the jobs you could consider:

  • Data Analyst
  • Junior Financial Analyst
  • Actuarial Assistant
  • Predictive Analyst.

Salary Potential

If you can do the maths and pass the exams then an actuarial career will be right for you.  Apprentices can expect to earn between £19,000 and £22,000 pa.

“I didn’t want to go to university but rather wanted to get my foot in the door early on, earn some money, not have a huge debt and get a great qualification at the end of it”
