What you’ll be doing:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electronics Engineering Apprentice to join the Electro-mechanical design team within Thales Underwater Systems (UWS). The team provides electrical and electronic design services to many Thales Sonar Systems deployed by both the Royal Navy and export customers across the world.
Thales’s sonar expertise covers everything from advanced acoustic arrays through to sophisticated signal processing architectures. We are delivering the world’s most advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) sonar to the Royal Navy, as well as cutting edge electro-optical and electronic warfare technology for submarines. Every submarine periscope and optronic mast used by the Royal Navy from as far back as 1917 has been supplied by Thales.
This Electronics Engineering Apprentice provides an opportunity to apply off-the-job technical training with on-the-job practical experience working with Thales Sonar Systems and our key customers, including the Royal Navy.
This Apprenticeship will help you to develop your knowledge of Sonar Systems and present you with the opportunity to assist the Engineering Electronics Team deliver engineer services, to our internal and external customers, designing and manufacturing sonar system products.
Through our Level 3 apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As an Electronics Engineering Apprentice you will be working towards a Level 3 qualification in engineering. For the duration of this 3-4 year programme you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies with a local college. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the industry. At the end of the programme you will move into a permanent role within the engineering function.
Location: This opportunity is in Templecombe, working within the defence business.

You will also need:
Candidates have a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A-C including English and Maths (B).
