Job Description:

This role implementation will primarily target individual development of apprentice personnel within a 4 – 6 year time frame, orientated within the V&V team but also include placements across all areas of engineering and site.

The main scope will include assisting and providing support to the V&V teams with regard to all aspects of test means: -

Installation and dismantling of electrical and mechanical components and equipment required to enable aerospace generating systems, electrical motors and controllers to be tested.

Assembly of Electrical and Electronic equipment, PCBs, Cables including the equipment required to carry out functional testing of them. 

Set-up and support EMC testing to defined procedures.

Tasks:

  • Undertake a 4 – 6 year apprenticeship developing skills in all aspects of product development and qualification tests including documentation.

  • Assist engineers in all aspects of testing using both on and off site facilities whilst maintaining a clean and tidy work environment.

  • Manufacture or modify mechanical equipment, rig fixtures and electrical equipment & harnesses as requested.

  • Assist with laboratory processes improvement and development.

 

Principal accountabilities:

  • Understand basic operation of mechanical and electrical products and equipment.

  • Assist with mechanical and electrical testing of Safran Group products.

  • Mechanical and Electrical equipment maintenance and installation.

  • Hydraulic circuit construction, using solid and flexible piping.

  • Installing test rig and equipment system wiring, both high and low current.

  • Modify existing mechanical and electrical test rigs to accept new equipment / components.

  • Mechanical and electrical assembly of prototype / development units.

  • Installation of measurement equipment and transducers both digital and analogue.

  • Participate in Continuous improvement and 6S activities.

  • Follow both Safran Group HS&E policy and operating procedures.

 

Key Performance measures:

  • Time scales, efficient working practices.

  • Technical performance in all areas placed during the apprenticeship.

  • Maintain regular attendance of a recognised training course and its successful completion. 

 

Skills:

  • 5 GCSE passes (A-C grade) including Maths and English (or equivalent).

  • Able to follow procedures and clear instructions whether working independently or as part of a team.

  • Have a positive attitude and flexible, proactive approach to all aspects of work and a willingness to learn and develop.

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet program deadlines 

  • Have an aptitude for mechanical and electrical hands on work. 

  • Have good communication skills, both written and verbal when dealing with all levels within the development team and also when required with maintenance and individual project engineers.

  • Good working knowledge of MS Software i.e. Excel, Word, 

 

Additional Information:

There may be a requirement for this role to involve working offsite, both at other Safran sites and suppliers. This will be assessed and aligned with relevance to the training and course working being undertaken.

Some placements may involve a requirement to work shift patterns in order to accommodate project deliverables.
