Join us for three fascinating, surprising and career-advancing years as an apprentice.

Expert training, thousands of pounds in your pocket and a lifetime of engineering possibilities. When you're transforming Britain's vast railway network, you get more than just an education. You'll gain the kind of skills that can set you up for life.

What you’ll be doing

We’re vital to Britain’s future success, which means we could play a big part in yours. Network Rail looks after 20,000 miles of track, 40,000 bridges and viaducts, and thousands of signals and level crossings.

Some of our apprentices go on to work on some of the most ground breaking projects in Britain, and moved onto to work  senior roles such as Programme Managers, Principal Engineers and Maintenance delivery managers.

With your support we will be:

•Improving people’s journeys
•Helping people get to work on time
•Connecting families and friends
•Helping business owners get to their clients
•Helping visitors see the UK

In your first 21 weeks you’ll be one of 150 apprentices living and learning at Westwood, our world-class training facility.  Here you will begin learning the necessary skills to help you succeed on the Scheme.  This also gives you the opportunity to begin making friends with other apprentices in your cohort.

The rest of your scheme will be spent working from a depot close to home putting the theory you have learned into practice. Specialising in electrification and plant, overhead lines, signalling, telecoms, track or off track, you’ll receive expert training throughout your apprenticeship scheme.

Once the apprenticeship scheme is over, the development doesn’t stop there !  You will then go on to have a chat with your line managers, to see how we can continue to support your development.   Many apprentices go onto further study, such as sponsored university degrees , professional accreditation etc

How we’ll reward you

A Network Rail Apprenticeship means the chance to earn a real wage while you learn.

We pay you £9,479 during your first year, plus £1,265 for successful completion. During your 21 week residential stay at Westwood we’ll pay for your accommodation, three meals a day (brunch and dinner on Sundays), your work clothing and personal safety equipment.

This rises to £12,525 in the second year and £14,924 in the third year.

On top of this, you’ll get 28 days holidays, plus bank holidays.
