Join us on an Engineering Degree Apprenticeship (Filton) and you’ll become a part of the team that’s developing solutions for our future environmentally sustainable aircraft, alongside industry experts.

This 4-year specialist programme offers a full degree with no fees, plus vocational training with a regular salary. You’ll work towards a BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering, Level 2 Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering and Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, and a professional IEng level award. It’s widely recognised as preparing the engineers of the future, equipping them with the variety of skills and experience needed to maintain Airbus as one of the leading commercial aerospace companies in the world.


What you will be doing

Your first year as an Engineering Degree Apprentice will predominantly be spent completing your vocational foundation diploma. Soon after, you’ll join one of the engineering teams at our site in Filton, Bristol, to gain a broad exposure to the engineering elements of our Commercial Aircraft Programmes. Here, you’ll complete a variety of placements to build on core skills, and develop project management and leadership skills. These could be in business areas such as:

  • Wing Structures
  • Aerodynamics
  • Landing Gear
  • Fuel Systems
  • Testing 
  • Aircraft Architecture and Integration
  • Design
  • Simulation
  • Stress and Fatigue
  • Systems Installation Safety Analysis
  • Research and Technology
  • Certification
  • Ground and Flight Test
  • In Service Support
  • Digital (e.g. coding, AI, Machine Learning, Data Analytics).

Throughout these placements you’ll develop your technical, business and financial knowledge, and also be able to complete additional tool and soft skill training. There will also be opportunities for you to work on STEM projects aimed at inspiring the engineers of the future.



To join this apprenticeship, you will need either:

  • 112 combined UCAS points, made up of A-Level Grade B minimum in Maths and Grade C minimum in Physics or Chemistry, with a further A-Level/AS-Level/BTEC Diploma; or
  • BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in an Engineering Subject at minimum grade DMM, where the Distinction grade is in Further Mathematics; or
  • Access to HE - Minimum 30 Level 3 credits, with 15 in Maths and 15 in a Science or Technology subject; or
  • Baccalaureate IB - Minimum H5 grade in Mathematics, and a minimum H3 grade in either Biology, Chemistry, Comp Science, Physics.

Plus, a:

  • Minimum Grade 4/C English, and Grade 5/B Maths; or
  • Equivalent qualifications.

The ideal candidate will also be:

  • Naturally curious and keen to learn and explore
  • Excited to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Able to manage problems and communicate effectively to resolve them quickly
  • Passionate about Aerospace and shaping the sustainable future of the civil aircraft market.
