Over 24 months, you’ll develop leadership skills, gain technical exposure and understanding, and experience professional development, through a combination of theoretical learning and on the job experience. We’ll also make sure that you’re on track throughout the scheme by conducting regular reviews to check you’re setting yourself up for success. Supported by PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) trainers, you’ll be driven, focussed and keen to achieve a supervisory role in a technical discipline.

Asset Strategy

The Asset Strategy team sits within our Safety and Network Strategy department, and is responsible for shaping our asset management strategy to ensure we achieve our business objectives, meet our regulatory commitments and ultimately provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers.
 
This role is suited to individuals who have a keen interest in shaping the future of the gas distribution network, balancing cost, risk and performance in line with our customer and stakeholder expectations.
 

Distribution Network Control Centre (DNCC)

The Distribution Network Control Centre (DNCC) role is based within our Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) team which sits within the Safety and Network Strategy department. The SCADA team is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of gas from our strategic offtake locations to our customers.
 
Within the SCADA team, you will be involved in the configuration and management of our telemetry, SCADA and associated critical control systems which we use to control remote sites and relay key information to the control room based in Hinckley.
 
This role is suited for individuals with a keen interest in engineering, systems, analysis and presentation of data. Following successful completion of the programme, you will secure a role as a SCADA Telemetry Control Assistant.

Engineering Network Strategy

The Above 2 Bar Engineering Services team sits within our Safety and Network Strategy department, and is responsible for implementing the Company Engineering Framework (Competence, Compliance, Legislation, Policy and Procedures), ensuring company assets are fit for purpose and compliant with legislative obligations by providing expert technical support to the business.
 
Through innovation, we coordinate the introduction of new ideas and technology into the operation of the business and work with other gas distribution networks and the Government, with the goal of meeting the UK’s future energy demand.
 
This role is suited for individuals who have a keen interest in an engineering discipline such as Civil, Mechanical and Electrical & Instrumentation. Within the role, you will have the opportunity to shape the engineering framework we operate within, ensuring continued compliance with all appropriate health and safety legislation and regulations.

We currently have places available for this programme at our depots in Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Hinckley, Hitchin, Manchester, Slough and Sheffield.

 

Capital Delivery

Within the Capital Delivery team, you’ll gain exposure to the end-to-end project lifecycle. With a focus on design, you’ll also be involved in Construction, SHESQ, Commissioning and Commercial aspects.
 
Following successful completion of the two-year programme, you’ll secure a role as an Assistant Design Coordinator. This is an integral position within the Capital Delivery team, ensuring our above 7 bar pressure pipeline and Asset Health projects are designed in a way that complies with industry specifications and best practice.

Construction

This team is responsible for managing the contracts which deliver investment in new and replacement gas mains and services across our networks.
 
This year alone, the mains replacement programme will deliver 400km of pipe replacement. That's 7.5km a week, delivered by 60 teams, with 300 operatives - so it’s a huge operation.
 
The end role following completion of the two-year programme will be an Assistant Authorising Engineer, which is critical to the safe and compliant delivery of the mains replacement programme. In this role, you will work closely with our contractor company and provide the support and guidance needed for them to undertake all engineering activities.

We currently have places available for this programme at our depots in Essex, Hertfordshire, Slough, Barnet, Romford, Manchester, Blackpool, Liverpool and Stockport. 

 

Your Training  

You’ll study towards achieving an HNC in Mechanical Engineering. Over two years this will be a combination of academic study at Solihull College and on-the-job training at work. You’ll also have a dedicated mentor to support you at every step.
 
Your academic studies will be made up of 18 weeks study at college over the two years combined with Cadent specific on the job training including personal development, health and safety and leadership skills.

 

Your Career Path

Once you’ve successfully completed the ETP Scheme, the role you move into will depend on which area of the business you work in. We’ll also support you in gaining your accreditation at this point too.
