Our Equine Therapy in Argentina project is perfect for those with a passion for horses and an enthusiastic interest to work with vulnerable children and adults.
As a volunteer on this project, you will need an intermediate level of Spanish in order to ensure that you can interact comfortably and fully with local staff. You will help both adults and children overcome emotional and physical problems and rehabilitate by following through with a therapy programme which involves working with horses.
The aim of the equine therapy centre is to offer a better quality of life to patients and also to offer horse riding as a recreational activity.
Your role as a volunteer will involve the day-to-day care of the horses as well as helping the children and adults learn to ride. You will also attend classes in order to learn the theory behind equine therapy and how to apply it when working with the patients. You will receive guidance from the Projects Abroad staff and from your supervisor at the centre.
To me, every one of those kids is extremely brave. I must say, it is very impressive to see a child with a severe physical impairment take control of something so large. They’ve shown me the true meaning of persistence, and the importance of running towards what I fear. - Laura Bogenschutz
The effect of the therapy varies with each patient; however you can play a large part in their enjoyment and help them to create a positive experience from the sessions. Your very presence will help to make each session enjoyable - which is vital to maintaining the interest of the children and adults.
