IT Information Systems Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6), Stevenage

At MBDA our Information Systems (IS) team deliver, support and maintain enterprise level computer applications for our Engineering, Manufacturing and business functions. It is through the work that they do that we are able to design and configure MBDA’s products and make it possible for them to be built and supported in service.

The team seek to deliver and maintain today’s needs but also to anticipate, plan and promote future tools and applications to service the ambitions we have to be smarter and faster and for our projects to deliver value to our customers and shareholders

What is the opportunity?

This role is specifically within the IS Engineering team and works closely with our Engineering capability departments. Because of this, you could be working with Engineers as they complete their work on any of our products at any stage of the missile lifecycle. Typically you could work on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) which includes Systems and Software or with Customer Support Services (SLM) – but don’t worry if you don’t already know everything (or anything!) about these areas – our teams will be there to support you.

On any given day you could be building and analysing requirements, identifying and selecting solutions to a range of challenges, deploying and testing applications or providing support to keep the enterprise working. Due to the projects we work on, the various teams we work with, and the variety of projects at any stage of the missile lifecycle at any given time, we are often a team that works flexibly and to changing priorities, but we also endeavour to maintain good Project Management practices and compliance to standards.

The IS team work with technical specialists in multiple areas of the business, and we need to be comfortable with working with lots of people, but also lots of detail – often of a highly technical nature.

The most exciting aspect of this opportunity is the future technology that we will use in the business – you’ll start your career looking at what we currently use here and now, but through your apprenticeship you’ll be gaining experience which will help you to provide the systems of the future.

Programme Structure

You will study for a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions from University of Hertfordshire, fully funded by MBDA. From day one of joining, you’ll attend uni 1 day per week of your working week and study will be a blend of virtual and face to face.

We already have an apprentice part way through their scheme so you’ll get to work with them on projects and gain an additional person in your support network.

The majority of the scheme will be spent with, and supporting, the IS analyst function of the IS Engineering Team. Shorter placements will be undertaken within wider IM function to aid your understanding of IT systems within MBDA. You will work on our digital continuity and digital twin projects as well as designing and implementing process improvements for our existing tools.

Our projects are typically a mix of ‘waterfall’ and ‘Agile’ developments meaning you’ll have the opportunity to compare and contrast different styles of application development and begin to learn how to select the best approach to meet the requirements.

Entry Criteria

This role has specific qualification level and subject criteria - please make sure you carefully check your eligibility against this criteria as we cannot consider applications from anyone that does not meet the following requirements:

5 x GCSE qualifications at Grade 4 or higher, to include Maths and English

In addition to:

120 UCAS points through A level qualifications to include Maths at minimum grade C
