About the Role:

The Apprentice IT Technician is an important part of the IT team. Schools are increasingly dependent on its IT systems working properly and efficiently. You will be responsible for system wide technical support including: workstations, laptops, printers, audio-visual, telecoms and printing.


As an apprentice you are likely to be involved in following tasks:

  • Resolve problems associated with operating systems, networks, software, hardware, printers etc.
  • Provide 1st line support for customers
  • Provide remote technical support to understand and troubleshoot issues via telephone, email and chat support
  • Installation of new software and hardware on client systems
  • Maintain and fix other computing equipment
  • Assist in system upgrades and system maintenance
  • Liaise with third party suppliers such as Internet Service Providers and vendors 
  • Support with technology asset management
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned to you


Training to be provided by Primary Goal:

  • Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Comprehensive digital pre-apprenticeship induction programme (including health and safety, safeguarding, PREVENT, and technical specifics)
  • e-learning training materials
  • Specialist vendor and technical certificates
  • Access to practice labs to develop technical competency
  • Monthly assessor visits and competency checks
  • Support desk (technical and pastoral)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Key Skills development
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities module
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English (if required)

Being part of the Primary Goal community provides apprentices access to a range of other apprentices with varying levels of experience, who can share good practice and offer suggestions and support. Our apprentices love being able to help each other!

Desired Qualifications:

There are no specific entry requirements for this apprenticeship. While GCSE Grade A-C in Maths, English and IT are highly desirable, applicants who are willing to work towards their Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths will also be considered.

Things to consider:

  • The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check
  • Drivers licence is preferable

Paid hours per week: 35 hours per week, specific hours to be determined prior to appointment

Expected Duration: 15 - 18 months
