Overview:

We are looking for an IT Technician Apprentice to support the IT Department by providing technical support and guidance to assist staff and pupils of the school with all IT requirements. 

Main accountabilities:

  • Installing and configuring computer hardware, operating systems and applications
  • Operate the helpdesk first line support. Talking staff or pupils through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone to help set-up systems or resolve issues
  • Setup and operate audio visual equipment for assemblies and productions
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults
  • Replacing parts as required; maintaining toner and spares stocks
  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks
  • Providing support; including procedural documentation; maintaining the equipment register; the booking system for it equipment and software licence database
  • Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set-up a system
  • Assist the network manager with large scale installations and deployments
  • Setting up new users' accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues
  • Add items to and maintain the school’s website
  • Responding within agreed time limits to logged issues
  • Working continuously on a task until completion or referral to third parties, if appropriate
  • Prioritising and managing many open cases at one time
  • Rapidly establishing a good working relationship with staff, students and suppliers
  • Testing and evaluating new technology
  • Conducting electrical safety checks on computer equipment
  • Keep up-to-date with ICT developments, and liaise with the network manager over future developments in systems
  • Any other tasks as reasonably directed by the Network Manager or Head teacher

In accordance with the school’s commitment to follow and adhere to the Department for Education guidance entitled "Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education" (January 2007) and all other relevant guidance and legislation in respect of safeguarding children, you are required to demonstrate your commitment to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people in the School. You are required to have satisfactory Enhanced DBS clearance.

Desired qualifications: 

3 x GCSE (or equivalent) at grades A-C in any subject, plus GCSE English and Maths (or equivalents) at grade D or above. 

Working week:

  • Monday - Thursday, 8am - 4.30pm,
  • Friday, 8am - 4pm. (1 hour lunch) 
  • 37hrs per week

QA’s apprenticeships are funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), an executive agency of the Department for Education.

To be eligible for a Government funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years.
