If you are looking for an exciting, fast-paced backdrop to do some creative writing then there's nothing better than Journalism in China project. Living and working in the modern and rapidly-developing cities of Shanghai and Chengdu, you will surely feel inspired to root out some interesting stories for one of our English magazines.
Volunteers on this project will work alongside a local English speaking journalist for a minimum of 8 weeks and will get a chance to explore what these vibrant cities have to offer, as well as be involved in a wonderful environment in which to develop your reporting skills and build up a valuable portfolio, while getting a fascinating insight into modern Chinese life.
You can choose to work for a business; entertainment, current affairs and lifestyle or news publication and your workload will be very varied. You may be asked to give an outsider's view on Shanghai culture the one day and then find yourself interviewing an important public figure the next.
Although having written for both school and local magazines before, this was a whole new level and one that was intensely rewarding, as well as being hugely enjoyable - Emma Cookson
Volunteering on this project will provide you with some fantastic work experience which will greatly enhance your job prospects back home in this competitive industry.
