We offer aspiring and journalists the opportunity to further their experience in the notoriously competitive world of journalism by joining our Journalism in Jamaica placement, where you can choose between either radio or print journalism.
Volunteers interested in radio journalism will work at the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) radio, just a few minutes from Mandeville’s town centre. NCU FM carries 24 hour programming with various shows on health, family life, religion, news and sports which volunteers can work on. You will spend the first two weeks doing observations and will then get a chance to partake in some hands-on tasks depending on your capabilities.
If however you are interested in print journalism, you will work alongside local staff to compile and write short stories according to a writing checklist and also conduct audience analysis, feature writing, practising interviewing techniques, and researching the role of print journalists in Jamaica
This journalism placement provides volunteers with an insight into the workings of the media in a new cultural and political setting. The work experience that you gain will enhance your CV and increase your prospects in this highly competitive field.
